Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) is exploring a partnership with the Regional English Language Office to offer the Access Career English program, a one-year English language program comprising a total of 180 hours of instruction.
This program is designed to improve students’ English proficiency while developing their leadership and innovation skills. “This program aims to strengthen students’ global competencies from an early stage,” said Rudi Hartono, Ph.D., a lecturer at UIGM’s Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) and Head of the International Office.
In implementing the program, the organizing institution is responsible for providing facilities and resources, supporting the recruitment of second-year students with leadership potential, and ensuring a learning environment that fosters teamwork and community engagement. The institution will also connect program activities to the local context and periodically monitor students’ learning progress.
“The institution’s active involvement is key to the program’s success,” he emphasized.
The Access Career English Program uses a project-based approach, simulations, and teamwork to introduce American-style entrepreneurial traditions, problem-solving, and civic leadership adapted to the local context. Program participants are second-year students from all academic disciplines, selected based on their initiative and leadership potential. “This program serves as an important bridge before students enter the advanced specialization phase,” he said.
Through this program, students are expected to improve their English communication skills for academic and professional needs, build confidence in leading projects, and strengthen their critical thinking skills through real-world challenges. The program also encourages the application of global leadership practices in an innovation-oriented local context. “Strengthening leadership character is one of the program’s key outcomes,” he said.
In addition to students, this program also involves the direct participation of faculty members as part of an effort to broaden the impact of learning. Faculty involvement is considered essential to strengthening academic support throughout the program. “Collaboration between faculty and students enhances learning outcomes across the board,” he concluded.
