The Chief of Staff of the 044/Garuda Dempo Military Command (Kasrem), Colonel (Inf) Andi Gus Wulandri, delivered a lecture on National Defense as part of the 2026 Campus Life Orientation Program for New Students (PKKMB) at Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) on Monday (September 14).
“Awareness of national defense must be instilled early on in the younger generation, including college students,” said Andi.
The material covered included an understanding of national and civic life, the four pillars of nationalism, the rights and obligations of citizens, the importance of fostering a sense of national defense, and its application in the local community.
“All of this material is interconnected and serves as the foundation for students as they navigate life as citizens of a nation,” he said.
Addressing the new students, he explained that life as a member of the nation is a shared existence as part of a nation that shares a common history, aspirations, identity, and sense of unity. “It is that sense of togetherness that serves as the primary foundation for a nation to stand strong,” he said.
He also outlined a number of core values that students should embody, including a sense of pride in being part of Indonesia, upholding the nation’s good name, and prioritizing the nation’s interests over personal or group interests.
In addition, students are expected to demonstrate a spirit of cooperation, tolerance, democracy, respect for the law, and social justice in their daily lives.
“These values are not merely theoretical; they must become a way of life for students as future leaders of the nation,” he concluded. (Andhiko Ta)
