The 2026 Campus Life Orientation Program (PKKMB) at Universitas Indo Global Mandiri featured an educational session on the dangers of drugs for all new students.
The session was led by Yeni Yulita, S.KM, an Associate Drug Education Specialist from the South Sumatra Provincial Office of the National Narcotics Agency (BNNP), who urged students to stay away from drug trafficking and abuse from the very start of their college careers. “New students must be equipped with sufficient knowledge to avoid falling into the trap of drug abuse,” said Yeni.
In her presentation, Yeni explained that drug abuse is generally triggered by three main factors: the individual, the surrounding environment, and the availability of illicit drugs themselves. These three factors are interrelated and can increase the risk of a person falling into drug use if not addressed early on. “If any one of these three factors is not controlled, the likelihood of a person falling into drug use will increase,” she explained.
He emphasized the importance of the individual’s role in protecting oneself from negative influences, including the ability to choose healthy social circles and avoid excessive curiosity about illegal substances. The campus environment, family, and friendships also serve as key defenses in preventing drug abuse among students. “A healthy environment will greatly help students stay on the right path,” he said.
Yeni hopes that all new students will use this educational session as a foundation for resisting all forms of drug temptation while pursuing their higher education. “Stay away from drugs, because your future is far more valuable than fleeting pleasure,” she concluded. (andhiko ta)
