The Head of LLDikti Region II, Prof. Dr. Iskhaq Iskandar, M.Sc., revealed that the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) was the first to receive approval out of the five proposed medical faculties that had been recommended.
He made this announcement during the celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) on Saturday, September 19.
Iskhaq described this achievement as a source of pride in its own right, given that the process of establishing a medical school is no easy task and involves a long series of steps.
He noted that the establishment of the medical faculty at UIGM has helped open up broader access to medical education for the public. “Of all the proposals submitted, UIGM was the first to be entrusted with this task,” he said.
He explained that the existence of the UIGM Faculty of Medicine opens up opportunities for children from rural villages to realize their dreams of becoming doctors—something that, in his view, has long been a significant challenge for communities in these areas.
According to him, access to medical education should not be limited to certain groups. “The dream of becoming a doctor is no longer out of reach for children from rural villages,” he said.
Iskhaq emphasized that education at the UIGM Faculty of Medicine focuses not only on honing medical skills but also on shaping students’ conscience and empathy, especially when they engage directly with the community. He hopes that graduates of the UIGM Faculty of Medicine will one day become doctors who are not only competent in their field but also sensitive to the social conditions around them.
“Knowledge without empathy is nothing more than a meaningless skill,” he emphasized.
He also urged all students to continue studying diligently without forgetting where they came from. He reminded them that the knowledge they have gained should ultimately benefit their respective hometowns. “No matter how much knowledge you acquire, never forget the way back home,” he concluded.
