The Rector of Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (IGM), Dr. H. Marzuki Alie, Ph.D., stated that his university produces three types of graduates who are ready to enter the real world: learners, creators, and resilient individuals. He presented these three traits to the graduates as guiding principles for their lives after graduation.
“These are the three traits you must carry with you as you leave this room,” he said.
He explained that the first type is the lifelong learner. He noted that the diplomas awarded today have an expiration date of two years. According to him, graduates who fail to update their skills, pursue certifications, and learn about new AI technologies will fall behind.

“This graduation ceremony is actually the first day you must start learning again,” he said.
The second type is the creator—not just a user. He noted that many outstanding students have so far merely been users of TikTok, Shopee, and ChatGPT. He urged them to reverse that role starting tomorrow. “Don’t let technology use you; you are the ones who must use technology,” he emphasized.
He gave examples: graduates could develop AI-based solutions for their mothers’ small shops or create designs for small and medium-sized business owners in Palembang. Such small steps, he explained, mark the beginning of the shift from being consumers to becoming creators. “You can start creating right from your own small shop,” he said.
The third type is the resilient individual, described as the core of the philosophy of “falling seven times, rising eight.” He stated that in the future, success will not belong to those with a 4.0 GPA, but rather to those who are the most resilient when others give up. He likened this to a bamboo stalk that is bent nearly to the point of breaking but shoots up even higher once released.

“I want you all to be like that bamboo,” he concluded.
As is well known, Universitas Indo Global Mandiri held its 24th Commencement Ceremony of 2026 for 472 graduates at the Golden Sriwijaya Building on Jalan Gubernur H Bastari in Palembang on Saturday, October 24. (andhiko ta)
