FK Universitas IGM – Gasing Community Health Center Collaborates to Provide Free Health Services to the Community

The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Indo Global Mandiri University (UIGM) held a social service event at the Gasing Community Health Center in Banyuasin.

This activity focused on three main pillars: health education, general check-ups, and consultations with specialist doctors. This program was specifically designed to fulfill the vision of FK UIGM in serving waterways or wetlands, which often have specific health challenges. The Gasing community enthusiastically welcomed the medical staff and students of FK UIGM.

The Head of the IGM University Medical Study Program, Dr. Widyastuti, Sp.DVE, explained that this social service activity targeted two major health problems that are still commonly found in the region, namely hypertension and intestinal worms.

These two diseases are of concern because the number of cases is quite high, especially in the Gasing Community Health Center area. “This social service activity consists of three main activities: education about hypertension and intestinal worms, comprehensive health checks, and consultations with specialist doctors,” said Dr. Widyastuti.

According to her, the health checks offered are quite comprehensive, including vital sign checks, blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol. Additionally, the community also has the opportunity to consult directly with specialist doctors, including specialists in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, and dermatology. Dr. Widyastuti revealed that from the initial examination results, several cases of parasitic infections were found in fairly severe conditions, underscoring the urgency of similar activities in the future.

This social service activity is part of the implementation of the Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education), particularly community service. In addition to providing health services, this social service activity also aims to bring FK UIGM closer to the community, while fostering empathy among the students involved.

“We want FK UIGM to be better known by the community, while demonstrating the implementation of the Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi. This also fosters empathy among students because it involves them directly,” added Dr. Widyastuti.

The head of the Gasing Community Health Center, Evi Andriyani, M.Kes, welcomed this collaboration. “We hope that this service will continue, and we look forward to the future collaboration between the Gasing Community Health Center and the UIGM Faculty of Medicine,” she concluded. (andhiko ta)
