FGD MIK UIGM Curriculum: Aligning Graduate Competencies with Industry Needs

The Faculty of Computer Science and Science at Indo Global Mandiri University (UIGM) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Master of Computer Science Study Program Curriculum.

The agenda, with the main theme “OBE Curriculum – Graduate Competencies (CI – CS – ES)”, was held as a strategic step in synchronizing educational standards with global industry needs. The discussion focused on the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which is now the main standard in quality assurance for higher education in the field of information technology.

The Head of the UIGM Quality Assurance Institute and Chairman of Aptikom South Sumatra, Darius Antoni, S.Kom, MM, Ph.D, who was present as the main speaker, explained the importance of in-depth mapping of graduate competencies.

In his presentation, Darius explained that the curriculum must be able to accommodate the main pillars of computer science, ranging from Computer Intelligence (CI), Computer Science (CS), to Embedded Systems (ES).

“The application of OBE standards is not just an administrative formality, but our commitment to ensuring that every graduate has a skill set that is relevant to the demands of the times,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the UIGM Master of Computer Science Study Program, who also serves as the Chair of IndoCEISS South Sumatra, Dr. Gasim, S.Kom, M.Si, emphasized that this curriculum update is part of a periodic evaluation to maintain the quality of graduates. Gasim believes that collaboration between educational institutions and professional organizations such as Aptikom and IndoCEISS is crucial in formulating learning outcomes. According to him, this synergy will produce a dynamic and adaptive curriculum that keeps pace with the rapid global advancements in technology.

“We must be bold in overhauling the substance of teaching so that students not only master theory but also excel in applied technological innovation,” he concluded. (andhiko ta)
