UIGM Partners with HuaQiao University to Study Palembang’s Chinese Architectural Heritage

The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) held an International Guest Lecture titled “Mapping, Planning, and Architectural Characteristics of Chinese Heritage Buildings in Palembang” at the Architecture Studio, Building C, UIGM, Palembang, on Wednesday (August 12, 2026).

The event featured Mr. Steve from the Department of Architecture at HuaQiao University in Fujian Province, China, as the keynote speaker. “Cross-border academic collaborations like this open up new perspectives for students,” said the Dean of the UIGM Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Endy Agustian.

As a follow-up, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UIGM, together with the Head of the Architecture Program, Dr. Endang Sri Lestari, and the Head of the Geomatics Engineering Program, Ahmad Ridho Sastra, S.T., M.Eng., explored the possibility of a collaboration with HuaQiao University. “Research on Chinese heritage in Palembang requires a multidisciplinary approach to ensure more comprehensive results,” he said.

He said that geospatial technology plays a crucial role in the inventory of heritage sites. “Accurate spatial data is key to the digital preservation of historic buildings,” he said.

The event was also attended in person by the Dean of the College of Architecture at Huaqiao University, Prof. Chen Zhihong, Ph.D., who emphasized the importance of exchanging architectural knowledge and cultural heritage between Indonesia and China. “This kind of collaboration brings together two academic perspectives on the preservation of historic buildings,” he concluded.
