Students from the Government Science Study Program, Faculty of Government Science and Culture, Indo Global Mandiri University (UIGM) have successfully completed their Professional Work Experience (PKP) at the Communication and Information Agency (Diskominfo) of South Sumatra Province.
This activity lasted for two months, providing essential hands-on experience for students in understanding the dynamics of bureaucratic work, particularly in the fields of government communication, public information, and information technology.
The coordinator of the Professional Work Practice for the Government Science Study Program at Indo Global Mandiri University, Dr. Isabella, M.Si, explained that this PKP is an integral part of the field learning process. The aim is to equip students with practical skills that cannot be gained solely through classroom learning.
“The implementation of this PKP aims to provide students with direct experience in understanding the dynamics of bureaucratic work, particularly in the fields of government communication, public information, and information technology,” said Dr. Isabella.
During their internship, students had the opportunity to actively participate in various Diskominfo activities. They assisted in the publication of local government programs through social media and official channels, were involved in the management of public information documentation and data, and accompanied socialization and training activities related to digital literacy and information disclosure. In addition, they also compiled daily activity reports and final internship reports as a form of academic accountability.
Representatives of the South Sumatra Provincial Communication and Information Agency expressed their appreciation for the students’ presence, which was considered to bring a new spirit to the implementation of activities within the agency. This collaboration serves as an important bridge between theory and practice. The students also expressed positive impressions, admitting that they gained a lot of practical experience and knowledge relevant to theory.
“Through this activity, it is hoped that Public Administration students will be better prepared to enter the workforce and become agents of change who understand government communication processes and the importance of public information transparency,” he concluded. (andhiko ta)
