To Enhance Teachers’ Competencies, Universitas IGM and SMAN 1 Muara Padang Explore the Use of AI

Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (IGM) collaborated with Muara Padang State Senior High School (SMA) 1 to hold an In-House Training (IHT) session titled “Enhancing Public Speaking Skills and the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)” for teachers on Wednesday (April 29).

Vice Rector III of Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM), Dr. Tien Yustini, S.E., M.Si., explained that this event is the realization of a strategic partnership between State High School 1 Muara Padang and Universitas IGM to enhance the quality of educators in addressing the challenges of modern education.

She said that teachers are expected to be able to integrate communication skills with technological advancements in the teaching and learning process. “Synergy among educational institutions like this is crucial to ensuring that teachers remain relevant in this rapidly changing world,” she said.

Additionally, she noted that after participating in this IHT, the teaching staff at SMAN 1 Muara Padang are not only skilled at delivering course material but are also motivated to continue developing their professional capabilities through higher-level formal education. “Teachers’ motivation to learn must remain strong so that they can serve as the primary inspiration for students in pursuing their aspirations to the highest levels,” Tien emphasized.

The first training session featured Dwiki Adi Putra, S.A.P., M.Si., who discussed effective speaking techniques and strategies for building confidence when presenting material in front of a class.

Meanwhile, during the technology session, Ferdiansyah, M.Kom., Ph.D., CEH., introduced the basic concepts of artificial intelligence and its applications, ranging from the creation of teaching materials to instant digital-based assessments.

The speakers provided hands-on simulations so that teachers could practice using AI to lighten their administrative workload and enhance the appeal of their instructional presentations. The primary focus of this material is to ensure that every educator possesses strong communication skills while also being literate in functional data.

“Mastering AI technology is not meant to replace the role of teachers, but rather to serve as a smart assistant that makes classroom interactions far more lively and innovative,” said Ferdiansyah.

In addition to serving as a capacity-building event, this forum also served as an opportunity to introduce Universitas IGM academic programs to teachers interested in pursuing a master’s degree (S2). University representatives highlighted the strengths of the academic programs, campus facilities, and career development opportunities available to alumni seeking to deepen their specialization in their respective fields at the university.
