Universitas IGM–MiMTC Collaboration Promotes More Inclusive Indonesia–Malaysia Trade

Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) and the Malaysian International Marketing and Trade Chamber (MiMTC) are opening opportunities to strengthen micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) so they can penetrate international markets.

This commitment is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by UIGM Vice Rector III, Dr. Tien Yustini, S.E., M.Si., at the INTEM Auditorium in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (September 30). “Our MSMEs have great potential; it’s just a matter of equipping them to compete,” she said.

The digital economy enables businesses to expand their markets beyond geographical boundaries. However, the success of this expansion still depends on capabilities in digital marketing, branding, product development, understanding of international markets, and business networks.

In this collaboration, she continued, the university plays a role through research, mentoring, training, and innovation. MiMTC strengthens trade networks and international business connectivity. Programs that can be developed include “SMEs Go Global,” international business matching, digital marketing for international markets, and entrepreneurship training. “Universities build the capacity of business owners, while trade partners open up access, and both must work hand in hand,” he said.

Tien emphasized that the MoU marks the beginning of a collaboration that is expected to continue through programs with measurable outcomes and impact. “We want business owners to experience the results, not just read the memorandum of understanding,” he concluded. (andhiko ta)
