Indo Global Mandiri University’s “Sriwikarya Kingdom”, DKV Students Revive Local Wisdom

Creativity and concern for local cultural heritage are clearly displayed in the “Sriwikarya Kingdom” exhibition organized by the Visual Communication Design (DKV) study program of Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM).

This exhibition showcases the final project of DKV students in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, with the main focus on the exploration and revitalization of Sriwijaya’s local wisdom.

The aim is to reintroduce cultural values that may be forgotten to the younger generation today. “The exhibition is related to the final project of students in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, related to localism, Swikarya Sriwijaya. How students explore local wisdom that has long been untouched, and then introduce it again to be known by the younger generation today,” explained the Head of Visual Communication Design Department at IGM University, Husni Mubarat, S.Sn, M.Sn.

In addition to the exhibition, there was also a Workship and Drawing with Manul. As part of the series of events, the exhibition also invited South Sumatran cultural figure, Erwan Suryanegara, who also led a workshop for students.

The workshop was designed to enrich students’ scientific insights into past cultures, not only introducing them, but also encouraging renewal in the future. In addition, drawing together manually is also an effective educational medium for students to get to know DKV more closely.

“For this workshop, students will gain knowledge of scientific insights related to past cultures, which are not only introduced to the younger generation but also renewed in the future. The activity of drawing together manually, this is an educational medium for students to get to know DKV more closely,” added Husni Mubarat.

South Sumatra cultural activist, Erwan Suryanegara, gave high appreciation to the enthusiasm of UIGM students in participating in the workshop. He also expressed his excitement and pride for the themes raised in the exhibition, such as pindang, songket, and kuntau, which are representations of local cultural wealth. This shows the young generation’s concern for their heritage.
