Indo Global Mandiri University – Taman Siswa University, Research Collaboration for Clean Water in Palembang

Two educational institutions in South Sumatra, namely Indo Global Mandiri University (UIGM) and Taman Siswa University (Unitas) Palembang, have established strategic cooperation in the field of research.

Rector of Taman Siswa University Palembang, Nyi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj. Sisnayati, S.T., M.T., CIAR. said, this collaboration marks a step forward in efforts to improve the quality of research between universities, as well as to answer real challenges faced by the community, especially related to the availability of clean water in the coastal areas of Palembang.

According to him, the initial focus of this joint research is to overcome the problem of clean water in Palembang which is dominated by peat characteristics and located in coastal areas, so that clean water supply is often an obstacle.

“One of the government programs to increase the value of research from each university is that there must be collaboration between several universities, including working with UIGM to conduct research in the future,” he said.

He said that the excellence of each university is the key to the success of this collaboration. UIGM already has relevant facilities and expertise in water research, while Unitas Palembang also has qualified technology for water treatment. The synergy between these facilities and expertise is expected to produce innovative and applicable solutions for the people of Palembang. “For now we are researching about the water area, where Palembang is in the coastal area it is very difficult to get clean water and peat characterization. UIGM already has that, and we also have the technology to treat the water,” added Mrs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj Sisnayati.

It is hoped that this research collaboration will not only stop at finding technical solutions, but can also be implemented widely, providing direct benefits to the surrounding community. “It is hoped that this collaboration can continue and benefit the surrounding community,” concluded Nyi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj Sisnayati. (andhiko ta)
