Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) launched a mentoring program entitled “English as Medium of Instruction (EMI) Mentoring Program for Faculty Members”.
This is a strategic initiative to improve the English language skills of lecturers and education staff. This program is a crucial bridge in building English language capacity on campus, as well as synergizing with UIGM’s internationalization vision.
“This activity is an important bridge for us to build the English language of lecturers and staff,” said Vice Rector I of UIGM, Dr. Sumi Amariena Hamim, S.T., M.T., IPM, ASEAN Eng.
According to her, the EMI Program is specifically designed to equip lecturers from various study programs to be able to deliver lecture materials in English effectively. The hope is that the lecturers are not only fluent in speaking, but also skilled in designing learning materials using English.
This ability will directly open up opportunities for UIGM to organize international class programs, attract students from various countries, and expand global academic networks. “Hopefully, the lecturers will not only speak a lot, but also design materials in English. And of course open an international class program,” explained Sumi Amariena Hamim, who also serves as the person in charge of English International for Education at Universitas Indo Global Mandiri.
He also said, as a form of real commitment in encouraging a competitive atmosphere and quality of education, UIGM also provides awards for lecturers who demonstrate superior ability in English. This initiative is expected to motivate the entire academic community to continue to improve their competence. The mentoring program will be held for 14 weeks, with the hope that all participants can attend and fully commit.
“UIGM has awards for lecturers who demonstrate proficiency in English. This is a form of commitment to encourage a competitive atmosphere in education,” said Dr. Sumi Amariena Hamim.
UIGM English lecturer, Badriyah Ulfah, M.Pd., added that this activity was a socialization to permanent lecturers as the language of instruction in lectures.
