Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM) held a workshop titled “English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI)” with the theme “Teaching Content Through English” on Wednesday (July 22).
This event was attended by UIGM faculty members as part of preparations for the internationalization of academic programs. “Over the next three days, we will be conducting an EMI training program or workshop to prepare our faculty members to teach in English,” said the Head of UIGM’s Language Center, Dr. Renol Aprico Siregar, M.Pd.

The workshop lasted three days, with a different set of topics each day. On the third day, all participating faculty members will conduct short microteaching sessions in English and receive direct feedback from the facilitators.

“All faculty members will be asked to conduct a brief microteaching session in English and will receive feedback on their readiness,” he said.

Renol explained that this training is part of UIGM’s preparations to welcome international students this coming September. Faculty members are expected to be able to conduct classes to international standards. “We will be welcoming several international students, so our faculty members are being prepared to conduct classes to international standards as well,” he said.

Renol urged the faculty members not to feel burdened by the pressure to be perfect while participating in the training. He expressed hope that approaching the process with dedication would yield positive results. “Perfection is not the goal; enjoy the process—take pleasure in what you’re doing—and hopefully this positive attitude will lead to good results as well,” he concluded.
