Strengthening Quality, UIGM Explores International Cooperation with FKAB-UKM

The Master of Civil Engineering Program at Indo Global Mandiri University (IGM) expanded its international network by conducting an official visit to the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), on October 27–28, 2025.

The Head of the Master of Civil Engineering Program at UIGM, Dr. Ir. Mukhlis Nahriri Bastam, S.T., M.T., IPM, ASEAN Eng, sees great potential for enhancing collaboration between the two institutions.

According to him, MUIGM and FKAB-UKM have begun to map out a more structured form of cooperation, ranging from lecturer and student exchanges, guest lectures, to joint research in the future. He explained that institutional collaboration with overseas campuses is part of UIGM’s strategy to improve academic quality and strengthen the internationalization of study programs.

During their visit, the UIGM team was warmly welcomed by FKAB-UKM officials, including Lt. Col. (PA) Ts. Ir. Dr. Muhamad Razuhanafi bin Mat Yazid, Prof. Madya Dr. Muhamad Nazri bin Borhan, and Lt. Col. (PA) Prof. Madya Ts. Ir. Dr. Nur Izzi bin Md Yusoff.

To date, academic relations between UIGM Civil Engineering lecturers and UKM have been established in the form of individual collaborations, primarily through joint authorship of scientific articles in reputable international journals. These publications have served as a gateway to building academic trust and intensive communication between researchers.

“FKAB-UKM is a highly relevant partner because it has a strong reputation in the region and extensive experience in civil engineering and built environment development,” he said.

In addition to the official discussion session, the UIGM delegation was also invited to tour FKAB-UKM’s laboratory facilities and industry collaboration rooms. The visit to the laboratory was intended to give UIGM a firsthand look at the standards of facilities, equipment, and research ecosystem that could support cooperation.

In between the official agenda, the meeting was also marked by a dinner together, strengthening personal relationships between lecturers from both universities. This cooperation plan is in line with efforts to improve the accreditation and competitiveness of UIGM’s Master of Civil Engineering graduates.

“This visit demonstrates the commitment of the UIGM Master of Civil Engineering Program to not only play a role at the local level but also participate in regional and global scientific discussions,” he concluded. (andhiko ta)
