Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (IGM)'s actions to contribute to the community are increasingly proven.
Including the Indonesia World Records Museum(MURI) program, organized by the Palembang Health Laboratory Center (BBLK), which conducted blood sugar checks for 15,000 residents in 17 regencies/cities in South Sumatra (South Sumatra) as well as celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Head of BBLK Palembang Muhammad Budi Hidayat said the program was carried out synchronously in 17 regencies throughout South Sumatra, which spread 100 checkpoints involving 500 officers, starting at 07.00-11.00 WIB. Universitas IGM was chosen as one of the health checkpoints in the MURI record-breaking event.
He said the goal of the program was to find out and reduce the risk factors of diabetes mellitus (DM), because it was estimated that the number of DM cases in South Sumatra was increasing.
Factors that cause DM are unhealthy lifestyles and lack of public education about the disease, with this program the community can be more educated, he said.
In addition, the Director General of Public Health of the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Maria Endang Sumiwi, said that the number of DM patients in Indonesia reached 13 percent from the total population.
Therefore, the activity is to control the number of DM patients and build public awareness that checking sugar as early as possible can predict the risk of complications.
The Head of the Cooperation Bureau of Universitas Indo Global Mandiri, Isabella, S.IP, M.Si, also expressed the same thing. According to her, people must routinely check their blood sugar as early as possible before the disease symptoms, to avoid complications.
By checking blood sugar as early as possible, it can control the symptoms of the disease, which can affect health, so people's lives become healthier and more productive. (andhiko tungga alam/dzulfiqor ammar)
