IGM University K3 Students Practice Hands-on Fire Extinguishing Techniques for Work Safety
Senin, 20 Januari 2025
In commemoration of the National OSH Month 2025, students of the OSH Study Program of Indo Global Mandiri University (IGM) held a fire fighting practicum as part of work safety learning on campus.
The activity, which was guided by experienced instructors from PT Pusri Palembang, aimed to give students a direct understanding of how to deal with fires and gas leaks in emergency situations. One of the main materials in this activity is extinguishing a fire originating from a LPG gas cylinder leak. Students were taught how to deal with gas leaks by using the technique of closing the hose valve by hand, which is an important skill in dealing with fires caused by gas leaks.
In this activity, students not only learn the theory, but also directly practice various methods of fire fighting. One of them is fire extinguishing using a fire blanket, which is one of the effective ways to extinguish small fires caused by gas leaks. In addition, students are also taught how to use a light fire extinguisher (APAR).
Students were enthusiastic and attentive during the practicum. They seemed serious in learning the techniques of fire fighting and gas leakage, and tried to apply them correctly.
This activity is very useful because we not only get theoretical knowledge, but also hands-on skills that will be useful in emergency situations, said Nanda, K3 student Class of 2024 with enthusiasm. This practicum activity also aims to instill awareness of the importance of work safety and the application of proper procedures in dealing with fires.
With activities like this, K3 Study Program students are expected to have adequate practical skills in dealing with fires and other emergency situations. This activity also strengthens IGM University's commitment in producing graduates who not only have academic knowledge, but are also ready to face the challenges of the world of work by applying the principles of work safety directly.
