Roeang Suara Students Journalist Association (LPM) participated in the declaration of Journalists Not Campaigners initiated by the Palembang Association of Independent Journalists (AJI).

During the declaration, hundreds of journalists in Palembang signed a joint declaration to stand by their independence and build quality journalism, in the process of covering the upcoming 2024 elections.

The declaration was followed and signed by a number of representatives from PWI South Sumatra, AJI Palembang, IJTI South Sumatra, PFI Palembang, IWO South Sumatra, FJP South Sumatra, JMSI South Sumatra, SMSI South Sumatra, Sriwijaya University Academics, Stisipol Candradimuka, and the South Sumatra Student Press Communication Forum and Students Journalist Association in South Sumatra.

"We agree to actualise quality journalism and oversee democratic elections, to get leaders who meet people's expectations," said AJI Palembang Chairman Fajar Wiko after the declaration.

Meanwhile, General Leader of LPM Roeang Suara Universitas IGM, Rangga Sutisna said he was proud that he could join with members of the press in South Sumatra.

"This is also a way of promotion and socialisation if Universitas IGM students are ready to create a peaceful democratic party. LPM is also ready to become a social control that has been mandated by the press law," said Rangga. (andhiko tungga alam/dzulfiqor ammar)
