On Monday, September 30th, Universitas Indo Global Mandiri officially held the Grand Opening of the Faculty of Medicine at the 12th-floor ballroom of C Building on the Sudirman Campus.

This ceremony also marked Universitas Indo Global Mandiri Palembang officially opened the Medical Study Programme for Undergraduate and Professional Doctor Programmes after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud-Ristek) of the Republic of Indonesia.

The opening of this medical faculty is hoped to meet the increasingly urgent need for medical professionals in Indonesia.

UIGM Rector, Marzuki Alie, highlighted that Indonesia is currently having a lack of doctors, particularly in village areas. He emphasized the urgent need to bolster the healthcare workforce to improve the overall quality of healthcare services in the country.

With the opening of the Faculty of Medicine, UIGM aims to prepare a new generation of compassionate doctors who are committed to serving the community, especially in South Sumatra.

Universitas IGM is dedicated to providing a high-quality education and has assembled a team of experienced faculty members to educate the first year of 50 students. Ten percent of these students will receive full scholarships to at the Faculty of Medicine, with hopes that they will dedicate their careers to serving the public.

Furthermore, UIGM offers scholarships to hundreds of underprivileged students from South Sumatra, complete with monthly stipends and plans to construct a dedicated dormitory for students.

The grand opening was attended by numerous dignitaries, including directors-general, regents, heads of institutions, hospital directors, the South Sumatra Police Chief, and other high-ranking officials. (andhiko ta/dzulfiqor ammar)
